On this episode, does the journey of parenthood feel like a constant challenge? Do you question yourself often in the decisions you make as a parent? That’s what I'm going to talk about this week and why loving yourself first is the answer.
Parenthood is not an easy path and for those who are on this journey, they know it’s not for the faint of heart. It is messy and emotional and there never seems to be a clear path forward.
Loving yourself comes first because you can’t truly give love to another if you don’t fully give it to yourself first. You can only give what you have to give and if there is no self-love, it is much harder to give it to others without exhausting yourself. I've found there are three parts to loving yourself: mind, body, & Soul.
Loving your mind is about having grace toward your thoughts. It’s about not being too attached to their meaning when they are thoughts you don’t like very much. It’s about realizing there is nothing to forgive because you’ve done nothing wrong.
Loving your body is about knowing you were not meant to stay one single shape, size or way. This one is especially true for the mothers because our bodies change after carrying a baby (or many) and giving birth. Finding a way to see the beauty that you are even if you're not the sie or shape you used to be is a HUGE part of loving yourself. Dads, this goes for you too.
Loving your Soul is feeding your Soul. Once you become a parent it seems as if there isn’t enough time in the day to simply catch a breath, let alone get creative or meditate or take a walk alone. Start with 5 minutes. Wake up 5 minutes earlier and just start with deep breaths.
The message here is to love yourself, all of yourself, just as you are. And from this place, you can pour your love more freely to your children and others in your life.
